1907 Gold Certificate

Alexander Hamilton was one of the most popular figures on early United States paper currency, including the Series of 1907 $1,000 Gold Certificate. He was an appropriate choice to grace American currency, because the was the first Secretary of the Treasury, serving from 1789 to 1795, and in 1791 he recommended the decimal system of 100 centsto the dollar as the U.S. national currency. Congress approved his suggestions, and the first federal coinage was made in 1793 in dollar and cents. In addition, Hamilton suggested that gold and silver should be the foundation of the American monetary system.
